| Students from BRAINBUILDER MATHS ENRICHMENT CENTRE won
University of New South Wales awards for their academic
achievement when they participated in the recent 2008 International Competitions & Assessments for Schools
(ICAS) - Mathematics. |

BrainBuilder Malaysia who will be celebrating their 3rd anniversary in Malaysia, is more than proud of the
achievements of these students.
The
Gold Medal winner will have the honour of receiving her award from the Minister of Education, YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein in a Medal Presentation ceremony in
November 2008.
The International
Competitions and Assessments for Schools are developed by
Educational Assessment Australia (EAA) of the University of
New South Wales and are conducted annually across Australia
and in 12 other countries.
The ICAS – Maths assesses Knowledge,
Creativity, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Skills.
These form the basis of the globally recognized Modern
Maths curriculum. No more are they talking about rote
learning, basic maths and drilling, drilling and drilling.
They want to raise Thinkers, not Calculators . This Modern Maths
curriculum is the exact foundation which the BrainBuilder
Programme is built upon. Doing well in the ICAS reflects
the children’s maturity in these very same disciplines.
"The ICAS also provide comparative data on the skills that
students need in education, the wider community and the
workplace of the future,” said Associate Professor Peter
Knapp, Director of EAA.
“The Competitions and Assessments are the only independent,
large-scale assessments in Australia that assess student
performance in the key curriculum areas across each of
the years of schooling from Years 3 to 12."
“One of the special benefits of the Competitions and
Assessments is that schools, parents and students received
detailed diagnostic information. The Competitions and
Assessments allow students to monitor their progress from
year to year and identify individual strengths and weaknesses,” he said.
General information about the Competitions and
Assessments for Schools is available by visiting
